Lysandra Sloane - Before and After by WMDiscovery93 Lysandra Sloane - Before and After by WMDiscovery93
Some sketches of Lysandra, showing her past life as Jacob in the early stage of transition to her present life now.

Lysandra Sloane, formerly Jacob, was born into a family that wanted a son. For the first few years of her life Lysandra fulfilled her parent's idea of a son; playing sports and dating girls, but especially excelling at performing martial arts. However at the age of 14, she started to feel sick and confused. She felt more like a woman in a male body. It didn't help that she also had a bit of a feminine body and voice for a male, of which she was teased about by her 'friends'. The teasing becoming harsher when puberty hit when her voice and body stayed relatively feminine.

With the constant teasing and her body not matching the social image of a male, Lysandra started feeling lost as she began to doubt her gender and social relations. At first she tried to open up about her emotional problems to her parents and friends, but they dismissed her problems as being in her head and simply being delusions. Feeling isolated, Lysandra became depressed and contemplated suicide as her mental health deteriorated. During her late-teens she began experimenting with herself to try to feel normal. She tried wearing women clothing and tried out hormone therapy at the suggestion of a support counselor. She started to develop breasts and feminine qualities that helped her feel more like herself. However, her depression lingered as she felt she had to hide her development from her family and friends until they were ready. However her life hit a dark turn one day.

When she was 17 years old, her father found her hormone pills. Going into her room to confront her about them, her father stumbled upon Lysandra trying on her mother's lingerie. Upon seeing that his son turned into a woman, Lysandra's father became furious, and started to beat her. No longer seeing her as his or her mother's child, he kicked her out on the street with nothing but a few clothes, cash and a sleeping bag. Lysandra was now homeless.

At first Lysandra tried to go to her friends for help, but they turned her away when they realized she was a girl with a penis or that she had lied to them. Lysandra's depression came back in full swing as she spent the next year on the streets homeless and without a family. She worked meager jobs, but lost them just as quickly when her gender was found out by the staff. At 19 years old, living in a lousy apartment flat, and with no one to talk to, Lysandra was bordering on committing suicide. On her way to her flat after losing another job, Lysandra was crossing a bridge over a freezing river. Malnourished, depressed, and having nothing of value, she stepped over the rails and was about to let go. But before she did, she saw a person being attacked by three men. Immediately rushing over to help, she distracted the muggers long enough for the victim to escape. However when the muggers got the upper hand they realized she was a transgender woman. They then tried to kill her for stopping them and for being a 'freak'. Holding her against her will the muggers stabbed her twice in the gut before being driven away by the cops drawn by the altercation, the cops responding to the earlier victim's call for help.

Fortunately for Lysandra, the knife barely missed her vital organs and she lived another day. Lysandra was traumatized by the event however and needed several therapy sessions during her stay in the hospital. She was still depressed as she felt she really didn't change anything in her life, until the afternoon news came on.

When the news came out, Lysandra learned that the victim she saved was a gay man who was stalked by three homophobic racists. Upon learning she made a difference in someone's life, she wanted to do more. She got that wish when the man she saved turned out to be a millionaire who owned several martial arts training centers.
In gratitude, and upon learning she was broke and jobless, the man paid for her medical bills and offered her a job as a trainer with excellent pay. With a bright spot finally in her life, she took up the job.

After 12 years since she was kicked out of her old home, Lysandra finally felt comfortable in her body with the help of several support sessions and therapy. She was in fact comfortable enough to not even need bottom surgery to get rid of her male genitalia. But as happy as she was now, she still felt she could do more to help others like her who suffered from gender dysphoria. Lysandra took up classes and became an accredited professional counselor. Lysandra now had the chance to not only teach people like her or anyone else how to defend themselves, but to help them through emotional problems so that they won't have to go through the miserable life she once had.

Well that's her backstory, hope you like her!

A fascinating backstory, if a heart-stabbing one! As someone who likes tomboy characters, this backstory is disheartening, and much too cruel. But it is sadly, fairly realistic. She's stronger for the hell she went through, even if it might take her a while to realize that.

The sight of the beaten up and homeless really stabs at my heart. Her dad needs a good solid punch to the gut for that. It's pretty telling then again, that she felt she couldn't speak about her views of self-expression. I'm firmly on the biology side myself, and as a "masculine" homosexual myself, I find the modern world's view of femininity and masculinity to be all screwed up. Who cares if a transgender person used to be male, they're female now, vice versa when that applies as well! It's probably weird for some people to discover this about their partners, transparency and honesty (and I KNOW some people disagree but a healthy amount of perviness :>) are essential to a relationship. Not really any different than discovering they have a funny tattoo or had an appendix surgery to me.

I suppose not going through with a full sex-conversion surgery, due to not affording it maybe? Would turn a lot of people off, we're simply not evolved to appreciate hermaphrodites, that will so change when the era of cybernetics arrives! All the weird body mods! But with the world is today? It's like nobody can be masculine, if a woman like swearing dresses she'll get yelled at and the former will get called a "pig" for some weird reason. Personally I do not like the idea of biology messing up my perception of who I am. Nevermind that none of our science can currently corroborate what gender even is, or if it exists at all. The guy who experimented with it... let's just say if he existed today we'd call him a little more than unhinged! Scientific history is fascinating and morbid at times!

Biology, psychology, culture, this triangle of influence and self-infliction seems to never break. Unless her father is rotten to the core I'm pretty sure he's in pieces about this. Be pretty hard to sell the idea of a person who went out to start a family who could so easily cast out their own flesh and blood. Thank you for sharing this character and her backstory with us. I suppose we'll never truly be rid of the idea of not being oneself until the proper availability of genetic tweaks and cybernetic body modification. Until that day, people with scars? Bear them proudly, but never shy away from dialogue.

Some people simply disagree on an idea, and not for any evil intent either.

Sorry for the monologue, it is super late at night here. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us lunatics, and random excessively wordy commenters like myself xD.

Rock on! :V

Thank you for the comments!

Her family life is really complicated, when she took on hormones and started to like things such as dresses, her parents tried to steer her back by forcing her do "man stuff" like sports due to their own ingrained belief about gender stereotypes and their want to have an idealized son. To them, they didn't or didn't want to understand why Lysandra felt so unhappy now when she had been fine being a 'son' since birth. Because of this they felt Lysandra taking on hormones was akin to a betrayal, and why her father lashed out at her and her mother was fine with kicking her out. This is by no means any excuse for their selfish actions, but it shows the tragic case when social tropes and stereotypes overrides familial bond. They chose to label Lysandra as an image of a son rather than her being their child.

As for the idea of Sex reassignment surgery, she chose to forgo it out of practical cost being to high, and because she felt it unnecessary now that she feels comfortable in her body. A few years ago when she was losing jobs, friendships and with her depression about her gender increasing, she absolutely hated her male genitalia. She hated that it made her lose friends and jobs, but was one of few things to bring her temporary pleasure when she was alone in her room at night...

If she had money then she would have absolutely went full conversion. When she recovered from her depression, she started to realize the rejection she experienced came from the people's choice, not from something that was always a part of her. With her distress at having a male genitalia gone she decided not to go through bottom surgery. She figured if people weren't going to accept ALL of her that's their problem, not hers. Because of her newfound relief, she's trying to help other people who feel insecure and confused understand that there is nothing wrong with them for feeling off and to seek help to guide them through their problems.

She's had a pretty hard life.

As for the sex reassignment surgery, she's a non-op, as has chosen not to get surgery due to medical cost and not feeling it necessary as she doesn't experience distress at having a male genitalia now. A couple years earlier and she might have gone all out, but she's decided she's fine the way she is now. ^_^

ah I see. ok then that would make sense and yea the cost for it is brutal. though I think with her there was a medical condition that made it that way on her. something hidden there more then the profile. though her parents should be punished for this.

at least somehow it worked for her. also can I pet her?

Another invigorating backstory to an awesome character! ^ ^

Gotta' say, when you draw a character battered and bruised, along with a shattered visage, the emotional impact really pierces through and doesn't let go. It's even more potent with the backstory to accompany said character's journey.
